Jozi Wedding

Really sorry about the huge gap between my last post and this one! I’m back and feel like I’ve got so much to write about. Of course, the top of the list for today, is Scott’s Wedding. What an event!

The Happy Couple managed to create much anticipation for their Big Day, by keeping the reception venue a secret. We all knew the theme was Afro-fusion/ Urban-chic, and so it was just perfect that they chose the rooftop of a building in the centre of Jozi. The views were SPECTACULAR.

They managed to create an African feel from the minute you arrived…

The main reason I want to share some of this wedding with you is not only because Scott is such a huge part of Babazeka, but also because so much of their Big Day was handmade and for me that’s just the best!

For starters, his wife Kerryn sewed her own dress, as well as the bridesmaids. She only started sewing about a year-and-a-half ago. AMAZING!

And she sewed all the shweshwe napkins.

Babazeka featured with our medium brown shweshwe bowls handmade by Wola Nani.

My sister, from Zenabu, handmade a whole lot of words from wire.

And these gorgeous plastic chickens from Kunye were dotted all around the venue.

I just had to make sure that Graeme and I looked the part (and did the handmade thing!) so I sewed myself a shweshwe skirt, my shirt and his tie.

All in all, it was an incredible wedding, I think made special mostly because of all the love and attention that went into every little detail. If you’d like to see some more pics, you can take a look at Kim Gray’s blog here and here.
