Patchwork
Today I thought I’d chat a little about the 70’s leather bag and the crocheted cushion – both part of the Babazeka Designs range and both having patchwork. I’ve always had quite a thing for patchwork, and because it seems to be one of the retro trends which has been revived (see Jezze’s blog, Designsponge, Bloesem and Elle Deco Blog), it made perfect sense to include it in the range.
I’ll start by showing you some pictures of patchwork in my house. This little box is probably my favourite of favourite possessions. I bought it when I was travelling around Australia years ago. Hand-painted patchwork. Isn’t it just too beautiful?
Here’s a crochet patchwork quilt I found in Oudsthoorn a couple of years ago – with my little girl pup cuddling on it!
And a patchwork design I made from little pieces of origami paper (they seemed too pretty to not be on my wall).
And lastly, one of my closest friends recently had a baby boy, so I made him a patchwork quilt.
Now, I mentioned that the bags which my ladies make are only from old off-cuts of fabric. Oneday, a huge box of swatches (right out of the 70’s) was dropped off and I just couldn’t believe my eyes. Because they were just small swatches, they’ve made the perfect patchwork lining for the leather bag.
Here it is completed. I asked a group of ladies from the REDI organisation to sew these up for me. Just perfect. I’m so keeping one for myself!
And the patchwork crocheted squares form such a fun and colourful cushion cover. It was made by Living Life who do loads of crocheted products. Love it!
