Internet Frustrations

I was recently asked to do an interview for a company on my thoughts about, and experiences with, my internet. Being an online business, it’s obviously key to have a permanent connection. One of the questions was, “What happens to your business when you just can’t get online?”. I was quite indifferent in my answer, “It comes to a complete standstill, but luckily though, this doesn’t happen very often”.

Ha! Since Friday afternoon my phoneline and internet have been down. Dead. Nothing. Frustrating beyond belief. I wish I could re-do the interview. This time I would be so much more passionate about the subject. Something needs to change in South Africa, where our internet access is cheaper, faster and it doesn’t just disppear every now and then. Especially when your entire business depends on it!

I could rant here for hours on this subject - Telkom just fixed my line today after raising the fault on the 2nd of March, and don't even get me started on wireless like Iburst - they seem even worse - took me months to try sort my connection out and finally gave up! It's such a pity as we really are at the mercy of the 'service' providers! Good luck with getting your lines up again and let's hope that cheaper, faster and more importantly, more reliablie connectivity isn't too much of a pipe dream!
  • That's SO frustrating, Jude! I must say that I'm quite impressed with
Telkom's repair service from my end. They arrived yesterday and fixed the
problem, so at least my wait wasn't as long as it could've been...
