Too African

I was battling with my image uploader last week, so I couldn’t show you images of what I meant by things being “too african” or as Jesse said in her comment, “kitsch”. This is all, of course, just a matter of opinion, but for me, you can see below what I think is over-the-top.

Next are [...]

Handmade Laundry Bag

Just had to show you the laundry bag that I made for Scott and Kerryn’s baby – the first Babazeka baby that I told you about. The pattern is from the Amy Butler’s book which my mom-in-law gave me.

Isn’t it too sweet? I’m working on one for my bubba too. Plus a changing mat, cot [...]

Design Team

First of all, let me apologise for the lack of posts lately. May I blame it on the long weekend, and being over 8 months pregnant…?
I’m looking for some fabric for blinds for my dining room and because I’ve already got Design Team fabrics in our lounge area, I thought I’d see if I could [...]

Some Basic Marketing

last week I went up to visit the ladies that I sew with in Nekkies (it’s been a while!) and over tea we got chatting about their shop. It hasn’t been doing verywell lately, not many customers, not many sales, and we discussed why they think this is. What struck me during the conversation, is [...]

New Moon

Take a look at these gorgeous key and coat racks designed by New Moon. They’ve all got a real South African feel, most of them being iconic scenes or plants, etc. The designers are mother and son team, Angus and Barbara Ewing, who also produce beautiful lights, decor items and pieces of furniture.
Take a look!

Africhic

I was introduced to a fabulous online fashion shop today. It’s called Africhic and sells a wide range of jewellery, handbags and clothing, all made by young African designers. They’ve also got a blog, where they chat about all sorts of things related to African fashion. It’s great.
Here are some of my favourite products from [...]

Quilting for Peace

The lovely Kim Gray told me about a giveaway on the sfgirlbybay blog. If you leave a comment saying how you help people in society, you have the chance of winning the most gorgeous quilting book: Quilting for Peace by Katherine Bell. Oh, I want it!

I know that there are so many of [...]

Veldt Designs

I was just going through my notebook when I noticed the name “Veldt” jotted down from the Design Indaba.

I somehow didn’t mention them way back then, which is totally crazy. Their designs are beautiful. Simple, and beautiful. And natural. Nature plays a big role in fact, as each design is based on a different plant [...]

Fox and Locket

I received an email from a lovely girl, Greta, telling me about her wonderful initiative Fox and Locket. Not only do they make gorgeous, gorgeous things, but she’s also employing a refugee from Zimbabwe to help her (aims to employ more as she grows), and for every product she sells, donates a book and bookbag [...]

Pretty Paper

You just have to see these incredibly beautiful paper designs by Dutch designer, Jurianne Matter. My goodness. I love her Blom range, which are little paper flower press-outs, so you can create flowers from them by attaching to wire, or use them as gift tags, as decor, whatever your heart desires. She’s also made beautiful [...]
